Day 1: Oh! the hustle n bustle of India!

I am currently sitting at a vantage point called Club India near my hotel waiting for my masala tea to arrive. Looking down, I see what I've always seen in Indian films and the Internet about the streets of India. The smaller roads, i mean. Honestly, it reminds me of Penang, minus the hokkien.

The honking of vehicles are slowly becoming music to my ears.

Rewind back to yesterday........

I was filled with anticipation as I sat in the bus shuttle on the way to the airport.. Was constantly twitting and updating my facebook status. I guess you could say that I'm still unable to 'disconnect to connect'.

Whilst boarding the plane, it was as though I was already in India, as it was full with fast talking people from, you know it, India. There were a few 'familiar' faces, that's to say, foreigners like me, though mostly caucasians.

Indira Ghandi International Airport is probably the most modern place I've stepped foot on in India. It rivals our KLIA, for sure!

Ok, 1st let down... My hotel transfer was late, or rather to say, was forgotten. I called them to send one over before I freaked myself out. Fortunately, there was a shuttle on the way and that gave me some time to re-collect my thoughts and breathe in my surroundings.

And yes, I found wifi where I could twit, facebook and whatsapp my friends to tell them i've arrived safely.

My 'driver' was this cute boy (cute in the attitude sense) who spoke pretty decent English. Kept me entertained for a while.

It took about 45 minutes to get to the hotel. Indian traffic. As bad as KL and Penang, if not worse. Except that drivers here don't keep to their lanes. Erm, what lane was that again? I mean, there were lines on the road. For two. But I see 3-4 cars driving on that two lane road. Also, the width of the cars are quite tiny, like my old kelisa. The myvi is a luxury here!

The place I booked is definitely a backpackers place. New King Hotel. It comes with this super fast English speaking front desk guy. So fast, I had to ask him to slow down so I can hear him.

It only cost about RM 50 for two nites. With a roof over my head, bed, hot water, and *gasp* wifi, who could ask for more!

It was late, and shops have closed. Luckily, I already had food on the plane. U know the whole scare about water being the least safest thing to drink? It is. So I had a trusty bottle of Baileys to keep me company for a while. And English tv channel. And wifi.

The toilet - just like how I had to use my toilet at home during the renovations. No shower, just trickling hot water to fill a pail and pour it over my head. No big deal.

Some time through the night, I heard screams for HELP and an ambulance! It was from downstairs on the streets. I didn't get out from my room, so i assume that someone got injured; either stabbed or robbed.

Got up at 730.. Took a long bath, only cause the hot water took some time to trickle into the pail. Started my walk to the train station to try and get tickets to Rishikesh.

Alas, the guys at the tourist bureau won't do it without Teresa's passport n visa, so will have to do it tomorrow after she joins me tonight.

The streets are filled with cows.. and cow dung. Walking with ur eyes on the pavement is a must! Or you might end up stepping into a fresh squeeze of poo. Of course, if ur on a clear path, look up.. I checked out the surrounding dilapidated buildings which are still homes to the natives. Some of the buildings have been renovated to house tourists like myself. No complains here!

There were at least 5 guys who has approached me to try and help me get what I want as a tourist. I've ignored them, as adviced by the hotel ppl. Trust my instincts and go with what I feel is right.

Well, I'm not planning to shop today as I'm still travelling with a full load. Yes, the things I brought are mostly perishables and disposables. So I should have a half filled luggage to fill up again when I come back from Rishikesh.
------------------
Apparently, fighting on the streets is a common thing, not just when ur intoxicated. I'm witnessing one right now from my vantage point at 10.30am.

Omelettes seems to be the in thing here. Almost every eatery stall has omelettes and tea. I tried one for breakfast, it's delicious. Something to do with the eggs. The shells are super White. Not like the yellow ones we get in KL.

My colleague emailed to tell me that chilly chicken cooked Chinese style is the bomb here. Really? *scratching head*

Anyways, I had a very beautiful henna done. They say it's wedding style. Hmmmm. And alot of ppl stopped to tell me it was beautiful *beams*

The weather is fine, chilly and sunny! So loving it!
